Wake
Up!

Most
drivers take drivers ed courses so they can get their license
earlier. These are boring courses that no one really pays attention
to. The problem with not paying attention, however, is that there is
a lack of education about driving. According to the AAA Foundation
for Traffic Safety, American drivers spend about 293 hours driving
per year. This is a lot of driving, especially considering that
people in driving classes don’t pay attention to them. You only
need a 75% in order to pass your drivers ed class, which means
a lot of people don’t actually learn a lot about driving in their
class. Education is a big deal when it comes to driving, and people
in drivers ed classes need to wake up and take it seriously. You want
to learn as much as you can in a classroom before you behind the
wheel of a dangerous vehicle.

In
order to reduce the number of driving related deaths people need to
be educated and start paying attention. We all know that phones are a
huge distraction, but so many of us remain uneducated and don’t try
putting it away. Everyone complains about getting pulled over for
distracted driving, but yet they are the ones not putting their full
effort into driving. Being distracted for one second is all it takes
to get into an accident. We need to wake up and start realizing that
we can do something about this problem. Put away the distractions!
Actually pay attention in driving classes. You learn so much just by
paying attention to what’s happening around you.

Almost
all of us have fallen victim to being in an accident or nearly being
in one because someone was being unsafe and driving with
distractions. Distracted driving is the leading cause of vehicle
accidents, and it is unsurprising. When you are driving you are
responsible for anything that happens involving your vehicle. If you
are driving distracted not only can you hit other cars and injure
passengers, but you can also hit objects or people that are not on
the roadway. Even if the accident is small, no one is hurt, and it is
more or less inconsequential, it can damage the car, which will
compromise safety in the event of a more serious crash. If that
doesn’t scare you; think about the fact that these accidents also
cause insurance rates to rise.

In
order to be a better driver, safer driver, or make others safer on
the road you can encourage others to wake up and put away the
distractions. When you see someone driving unsafely, let them know.
It is so easy to let yourself be caught up in checking just that one
text or email, but don’t do it. Don’t get lulled into the
distractions. Don’t get absorbed by the radio. Don’t drive
distracted. Educating people about the dangers of distracted driving,
and helping them to focus on not driving distracted, will make off of
our roads safer.
