Being
a safe driver is an important part of driving. It is the most
important part, that’s why we must have a permit for a year, which
allows teens to drive with adult supervision before getting their
license. Having a permit is a way to make sure you have had enough
practice to be behind the wheel in a vehicle so that you are still
driving responsibly without supervision. Getting your license is an
exciting part of being a teenager. Meanwhile, it’s extremely
important for drivers to realize what’s more important: getting
wherever quickly, sending a message, or to arriving alive. Getting in
the car upset is also a way to hurt yourself and others. You cannot
always control your emotions but you can control your actions.

Although
a person can pass their driver’s test, that doesn’t necessarily
mean you’re a safe driver. Everyone drives differently with their
parents on the passenger side compared to driving alone. All drivers
need to drive as if they were driving with their parents next to
them. If you wouldn’t do it with your parents there then it isn’t
a good idea to do it when they’re not around.

Not
only is it important for drivers to not get in the car upset or mad,
it is also important for drivers to think about others before getting
in the car knowing they’re not in a good mood or mentally ready to
drive. It takes just a second to get hurt in a car and not be able
to make it out. Many drivers are not aware of the amount of accidents
that happen year round. There are 6 million car accidents on average
that happen every year in the U.S. More than 90 people die everyday
in accidents. We are losing family members, friends, and loved ones
daily because of this. Younger kids should be taught about how
important safe driving is as soon as possible and it starts with
those who are driving now.

There
are ways to avoid accidents as well. For example, when you’re
riding with your friends or family and they’re texting and driving,
tell them to put their phone down or maybe even ask to type for them
and send their message if they’re texting and driving while you’re
in the car. Car accidents are the most common way to get injured or
even die. Most are from people not paying attention or texting and
driving. Currently in Florida, if you’re caught texting and driving
you will receive a ticket along with points on your license as
opposed to Alabama where if you have had a license for more than 6
months you will not get in trouble for having it in your hand while
driving. Being a safe driver is very important. I have not been in a
serious car accident but I have been rear ended in the passenger
seat. Recently, an important person in my life was in an accident
with three other people in the car and the lady I was closest to was
the only one who made it out alive. It is said that the accident
occurred because the other driver went in their lane, trying to pass
a car, it ended in a head on collision with this family. So
remember- DON’T RUSH. We should always leave as early as we can so
that we arrive to our destinations safely.

Afterall,
there are many laws in place to protect people, however, they are not
always obeyed and are constantly ignored. Sometimes drivers need
extra practice after earning their license or permit. A year of
practice simply just isn’t enough for some people and the extra
time can make a world of difference. What also makes it better is to
listen when someone tells you about your driving, correct others if
they’re texting and driving, and have control of yourself and your
emotions when you’re behind the wheel. Putting all these strategies
together can provide better outcomes for everyone involved while
making our highways safer.
