Drive safe & save

The control and operation of a motor vehicle is an important task that we all learn throughout our lives. Every state has their own requirements that may include certain hours of driving school, take a permit test, take a pre licensing course,etc to be awarded our drivers license. These requirements will let the state know that we are aware of our traffic laws and our consequences of reckless driving. Driving will not be safe due to some irresponsible drivers, more than 46,000 people die in car crashes each year, according to Annual United States Road Crash Statistics (ASIRT).

Like I said, driving education is important, this is one method the government requires that we complete so we learn all the laws of traffic, our rights, and ways we can prevent accidents. The purpose of driving school or course is to provide professional and practical hands on training to support our work as a professional driver. This course and professor will boost up our confidence so that when we go for our exam we know all the correct methods of driving and obeying the laws that are presented in our day to day traffic signs. Therefore, teens should start driving school around 16 years old based on studies “ Receiving this education at a young age, it helps kids obey the rules of the road”. This doesn’t mean adults can’t go because they are older, this will help us gain the foundational skills. For example, one traffic law we should all know about is the “right of way” which means the legal right of a pedestrian or vehicle to proceed with precedence over others in a particular place.

Drivers that don’t respect the “right of way” will cause an accident or even a death due to the lack of responsibility for not enforcing the law they were taught at driving school which is why driving school should be a priority for everyone who needs their drivers license. There are many steps to prevent motor vehicle deaths like always buckle up, don’t drive under the influence and don’t get distracted. Driving under the influence which is a common problem in car accidents because the symptoms you have when you are under the influence are dizzy, blurry vision, spins and blackouts. In addition, this will cause accidents and deaths because the driver will crash into another car or even kill himself due to the fact that he won’t concentrate on the road.

The experience I had is when my uncle got pulled over for exceeding the amount of passengers in a Nissan sedan. This happened in February of 2008 so my parents are illegal immigrants with not a lot of income. We had no car at the moment, only my uncle Victor did. So, that day we went to receive food from H.O.P.E which is a program that provides food for families in need. We went with 5 passengers that day. We collected our food and my uncle decided to take more passengers in the car so now we were like 9 passengers in a small sedan with two infants. On our way back home we get stopped by a police officer. He said “ why are you taking more than 5 passengers” so my uncle got a ticket for exceeding the amount of passengers and driving without a drivers license. Furthermore, my uncle Victor got arrested and his car will get towed that same day. My uncle and I remember this and we just laugh at the stupidity he did back then but you know this experience will be helpful for me in the future to learn and obey the laws due to our mistakes in the past.

The steps that I would take to become a better and safer driver will be to always think safety for example always buckle up and be aware of our surroundings.

Don’t depend on other drivers because it’s our responsibility to drive and take care of ours that travel with me in the same vehicle. As technology keeps on advancing streets and traffic signs change, I can go through those streets everyday and I’ll inform my family members to be careful in certain streets because they set up new signs that we have to obey so we avoid any traffic tickets and accidents.

In my opinion, driving safely and saving lives is one thing that depends on us. We have to obey the laws of traffic and never drive under the influence which may cause deaths to our friends and family. Always be responsible when driving and never be in a rush, always take your time. “Leave sooner, drive slower, live longer”
