This is Not an Action Movie but Real Life
In a novel that I watched recently, Kika (15 yrs old) and her boyfriend were at a party. Kika was trying to escape her feelings of sadness and anger and her boyfriend was just trying to have fun. They then decided to take drugs so that they could forget everything and have more fun. The girl´s cousin Ana Julia who arrives at the party with her tells her cousin that she would tell uncle about Kika´s use of drugs if she did not go home with her. The girl got mad and ran away with her boyfriend. They were going to leave but her cousin and a friend got in the car with her to try to stop her and her boyfriend from doing something they would later regret. A few seconds later while Kika´s boyfriend was laughing and speeding through the roads. He didn’t keep his eyes on the road and ended up in a fatal crash. Because of driving with mixed emotions and their drug use they injured themselves and innocent lives. Kika ś boyfriend, the one behind the wheel, was in a coma and passed away. Kika and her cousin as well as their friend were unconscious. Both her and her cousin needed a blood supply which to their luck two family members were able to donate, otherwise they would have died. This taught me the importance of knowing what not being in control of your emotions while driving can do to you. I took drivers ed and I remember how in one of the lessons they would talk about how you shouldn’t be driving while you’re upset, sad, or depressed, because it could cause you to be distracted when on the road. In the novel the girl Kika did not keep a good relationship with her parents which is why she would feel low and depressed. It is more common that teens can’t control their emotional reactions and it’s even worse under the influence of alcohol or drugs. I think that taking drivers ed is important because it can help teens be more aware of the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and it also reminds them that a car can be deadly for themselves and for others. When I took drivers ed and I was reading about how people who drive when they are really tired or sad tend to have a higher risk of crashing. It reminded me of all these movies of teen crashes and even adults who are going through a tough time thinking about something else and end up in a car accident. In which they injure themselves and an innocent person. These may be situations from movies but they are based on real life situations. In a recent news article, ¨Teen driver involved in fatal Redwood City car crash may face vehicular manslaughter charges¨ by Leah Worthington she reported, that a ¨The 17-year-old driver of a car that collided with another, resulting in the death of two and the injury of four others Friday night, may face charges for vehicular manslaughter, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe… Four other passengers were also injured in the Nov. 4 collision, including two in the teen’s car and the 7-year-old twin daughters of San Carlos residents Gregory Ammen, 44, and Grace Spiridon, 42, who died in the crash¨. Because teenagers nowadays think they are invincible and don’t consider the negative effects of their actions, accidents like these happen. In this car accident two twin girls passed away leaving their parents´ hearts broken. This is why I think that all teens under the age of 18 should take drivers ed. I have taken drivers ed because I want to be a good and safe driver. I want people to feel safe while being in the car with me and around me. I don’t want to lose family or friends to car crashes. I have luckily not been in a car accident before because my parents are careful drivers but I know of other people who have been affected by car crashes. When my friend was six years old she got her foot ran over by a speeding old man. She said she doesn’t remember the pain now but that it was very scary at the moment. Luckily she did not lose a leg and she recovered well. She actually participates in many school sports. She has played tennis for the school team and done competitive swimming races which I have seen. Imagine people who are involved in the worst car crashes who lose their ability to walk or write because of their injuries. People who have been run over by an inattentive teen or adult driver. Taking drivers ed is an important step for teens to be more aware of the things they need to look out for when driving. I think driving is an exciting part of growing up but I believe some measures that should be taken is to show teens videos about real stories that talk about the consequences of not driving safely. This should be done so that teens can have some empathy and remember this when driving. The goal is not to make teens afraid of driving but to open their eyes and hearts. They need to know what to look out for when out on the road.
