Saving Lives While Behind the Wheel

Saving
Lives Behind the Wheel

Driving
is one of the most important, yet most dangerous powers you can have
as a human being. Once you get behind that wheel, everyone in your
car, the cars all around you, and pedestrians are your
responsibility. It’s a gift and a curse to hold that much
authority, but if you are able to, drivers ed is something that
can help prepare how to handle the pressure and how to do it safely.

With
drivers ed, there are many lessons taught. From the build of
cars, to which pedals to press, to how to check your blind spot. But
the most important thing taught is how to save lives. Now that might
sound scary and very intimidating but all you have to do to save
someone’s life, is drive courteously. Some of the most effective
ways to do that are very obvious, like following the speed limit and
wearing our seatbelts. But in my opinion, texting and driving is
something that needs to be seen as an obvious fix as well.

Though
I have never been in a car accident, I know people who have been and
have seen some with my own eyes. The easiest thing we can do to avoid
texting and driving wrecks is to not be on your phone whilst driving.
Set it down, put it away, turn it off even. Anything is something. I
plug my phone in to listen to music from my car and set it down until
I get to my destination, which has saved me so far and is what I hope
to continue to save me and others while driving.

In
conclusion, take what is said in drivers ed to heart. It’s
given me a new perspective on life and how short it can be. Put down
the phone and look at what’s in front of you (literally!). Keep
your eyes on the road, for the safety of you and everyone else.
