Drivers ed
Driver’s
education is very important when trying to reduce the number of
deaths caused by driving. There are thousands of deaths caused by
driving daily (“Road Safety Facts.”)! That’s crazy to think
about! Hundreds, if not thousands of these deaths could be reduced or
gone if there was better education on driving and how serious it
really is. Distracted driving or driving without knowing what to do
causes a discrepancy on the road. Being unaware leads to wrecks which
ultimately leads to injuries and sometimes deaths. If drivers were
more educated about driving, there would be significantly fewer
injuries and deaths.
In
order to reduce the number of deaths related to driving, the
government could make more than one driving test, and stricter laws
on distracted driving. One test does not show what people do or do
not know. If someone is having a bad day, they may not pass their
driving test even though they are prepared, and vice versa; if
someone just is lucky one day they may pass their test when they’re
not ready. Having more than one test would show someone’s true
understanding and knowledge of their driving. Distracted driving is
arguably one of the highest causes of driving injuries and fatalities
(“Distracted Driving.”). Distracted driving could be from a cell
phone, passengers, other drivers, music, emotions or a number of
other things. These all take the drivers attention away from the road
which leads to accidents resulting in injuries and sometimes deaths.
If there were stricter laws, people would be less likely to break
them because they are afraid of dealing with the consequences.
I
have been in a car with an irresponsible driver multiple times, but
luckily it has not resulted in an accident. People tend to want to
show off, hear their car or even race their friends. It takes
maturity and self-control to make the right decision, especially
while driving. Irresponsible driving is a problem almost every driver
faces whether it is them or other drivers on the road, but it is a
very important time to remain mature and make the best decision for
you, your passengers and the others on the road.
Some
things that I can do to be a better and safer driver that ultimately
helps others on the road would be to be more aware of my
surroundings. Being aware that there are other people and that things
won’t always go to plan, helps the driver (me) be more prepared for
anything to happen. When driving, you can not assume anything. You
cannot predict the driver’s experience or maturity level,
therefore, making it impossible to rely on others following and
obeying the laws.
