Safe Driving is no Joke

Driver
education is the basis of prevention to reckless driving. As driver’s
education is the first experience young adults have with driving,
this experience is vital to the learning process and prevention to
reduce the number of deaths related to driving. The process is to be
taken seriously and is a chance to reach lots of students with the
rules of driving and importance of safe driving. Reckless driving is
preventable and these deaths can be greatly reduced with education.

Education
is the biggest step that can be taken to reduce deaths related to
driving. Education to new drivers is definitely a priority. I would
also say continued education to experienced drivers in ways they can
prevent reckless driving and examples they can set for others to
drive safely.

I
am known to be a goofy person, I like to laugh and make others laugh.
When it is time to drive it is no joke to me as safety for everyone
is a priority. Growing up I have been in the car with people who have
texted or been on their phone while driving. This has continued
throughout my life and it is common to see people on their phone
while driving. This can be really scary to experience both being in
the car or to see reckless drivers out on the road.

As
I mentioned previously, even being as goofy as I am, safe driving is
no joke. I have made that commitment to myself as I believe everyone
has their own role. I had messaged my cousin one day and her phone
sent an automatic response that she was “driving with do not
disturb” on and she will get my message when she gets where she is
going. I was able to enable this setting on my own phone. When my
phone connects to my car Bluetooth “driving with do not disturb”
turns on automatically and people who text me get an automatic
response that I am driving and I don’t get a message until I’m
stopped. This is important because even just receiving notifications
can distract even people committed to no phone usage when driving as
our brains are already wired around that ding or red notification we
see. From this situation I learned of technology I was previously
unaware of to reduce distracted and reckless driving and immediately
implemented on my phone. I realized though that this is why more
education in necessary, with more technology there are more
distractions and there are also more creative ways to help reduce
this! I am able to do my part and lead by example to others as my
cousin exemplified for me. I have reduced my distractions and am also
spreading awareness so each person that gets an automatic text from
my phone can see my commitment to reduce distracted driving and they
can learn to do the same! Deaths resulted in reckless driving can be
reduced when we do our part, people’s lives are no joke.
