The implications of Drivers Ed
The Implications of Drivers ed
Drivers ed
is essential to the importance of safe driving. We must continually
educate drivers on the rules of the road to make sure that our roads
are safe. Education is the most fundamental piece in reducing deaths
on the roads. If we know the rules and regulations of the road, we
can all be better offensive and defensive drivers.
One thing we can
do to reduce the numbers of deaths on the road is to require drivers
to complete a driver training test every four to five years.
Individuals get their license, and there is no retesting when it is
time to renew their license. By requiring drivers to take tests each
time they renew, individuals will have the rules of the road fresh in
their minds.
Furthermore, we
must educate the public on this issue. Safe driving is critical to
operating a vehicle. We must educate the public on the number of
deaths. With education, we can improve our methods. Laws have already
been put in place that prohibit the use of cellphones for texting and
talking while operating a vehicle. Parents must also set an example
for their kids. By showing teens that drinking and driving, and
texting and driving is not acceptable, we can reduce the number of
deaths from operating a vehicle.
I recently was
involved in a motor vehicle accident. The individual I was in the car
with fell asleep behind the wheel, and they swerved to the side and
hit the sidewall. This was on my side of the vehicle. My car door
came off, but luckily, I had my seatbelt on at the time. I was taken
to the hospital for cuts along my arms and chest. I suffered from
whiplash, and neck and back pain as well. I am still in physical
therapy due to this accident. I was always an advocate for safe
driving, but this was an eye opener for me. I knew that I had to do
more. I could have lost my life in this accident. I was lucky that I
didn’t. Since this accident, I have joined organizations that
advocate for safe driving. I have told my story about my accident
multiple times. I want my story to be a warning to others.
Furthermore, I
can be a safer driver by utilizing my turn signals and being a
defensive driver. By being alert to other drivers on the road, I can
avoid an accident, even if someone else is operating their vehicle
incorrectly. By using my seatbelt, I can reduce the risk of death for
me and others. By educating the public on safe driving practices, and
requiring a subsequent test when renewing a license, we can work
together to reduce the amount of deaths on the road.
