My pledge.

When
I was first starting my drivers ed course, I was prepared for a
life of freedom and to (of course) always be safe while driving.
However, I realized that reality is very different from the ideal
world and that careless driving does result in consequences and
sometimes that consequence involves death. As a naive person I always
thought that the roads only had people that actually knew how to
drive safely and would actually watch out for others. My driver
education taught me that it wasn’t true and that most people are
willing to risk it all to get to somewhere faster, however during my
drivers ed course, I was taught to be a safer driver and follow
through with state laws. I believe that drivers ed has the
potential to reduce the number of deaths, because it has educated me
to be a safer and better driver.

Some
steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to
driving is to physically tell others that have been through an
accident the experience that they had to witness and the life
threatening consequence that they might have to face from careless
driving. Another step that can be taken is to have people of the same
age talk to their own peers that are learning to drive. One final
step to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is to inform
others of the danger of careless driving.

I
physically had not been in a car accident, but I had a really good
friend that had to witness the outcome of drunk driving. I remember
it was very late at night when I got a call from my friend, I recall
that her voice was shaking when she said that she was involved in a
car accident. I tried to calm her down and let her explain what had
happened, the next few words that she said forever changed my life.
Shakley, she told me that the accident occurred at an intersection it
was very late at night, and then suddenly not out of nowhere she saw
the sight of bright blinding lights. The next thing that happened was
almost unbearable to hear, the driver was drunk driving and once the
accident occurred he was knocked out unconsciously.

After
hearing her story, I took a pledge to always practice safe driving
techniques. Shortly afterwards, I took a drivers ed course and
spent most of my time studying safe driving techniques. I teached my
parents some laws that had changed within the past few years
regarding driving and I am currently demonstrating safe driving
techniques by informing others of my story and experience.
