The Privilege to Drive

The
Privilege to Drive:

Driver
education is a key component in reducing the number of deaths as a
result of driving because the course teaches you valuable skills,
tips, and methods to be a responsible driver behind the wheel through
lecture and experience. Not only does drivers ed provide one
the appropriate course instruction to learn how to be in control
behind the wheel but one also receives crucial statistics on how
accidents and deaths may occur on the road and the skills as well as
tips to prevent those occasions.

Various
steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths concerning driving
including wearing a seatbelt at all times in a moving vehicle,
refraining from driving a car under the influence and instead seek
out a trusted designated driver, and avoiding multi-tasking behaviors
behind the wheel such as phone calls and text messages. Also, drivers
should always drive at the appropriate speed limit and avoid rushing
to a destination as well as avoid distractions such as eating in the
car and blasting the radios at excessively loud volume levels to
reduce the risk of fatality behind the wheel.

In
all honesty, my family members and friends, as well as myself, have
had multiple occasions of driving irresponsibly by falling victim to
eating and texting while driving. I’ve also experienced one car
accident because I was distracted in my thoughts and my concentration
on the road had been altered which led to a collision that I will
never forget. Overall, being a safe and responsible driver on the
road is of the utmost importance when being granted the privilege to
drive. One can take steps to be a better driver as well as encourage
others to do the same by modeling the important key factors and
behaviors of a responsible driver on the road.
