Defensive Driving; Drive the Right Way
How do you reduce
bad driving habits? A topic all people want to fix. As many times as
a driver will hear or see that bad driving could destroy lives they
just don’t learn. I know I sure didn’t. I took Alive at 25 classes
and learned about the mistakes that can happen in occurence of an
accident. My drivers ed class was great, but there’s nothing like
experience that really shocks it into your bones. Sure as a good
driver I knew not to text and drive or use social media while
driving, but nothing occurred to me about eating and driving. It’s
the same thing, you’re still distracted! I learned this lesson quite
recently on April 10 when I was eating breakfast driving to school. I
went too far off the road, stuck, and ran right into a tree. It’s
amazing that I’m still alive today with minimal injuries. I crashed
into that tree at 45mph! If I had gone the other way I would
certainly be dead, but God was with me that day and I certainly
learned my lesson and taught my family a lesson too. Do not eat while
driving! It is just as bad as texting and driving, social media,
drinking and driving, or doing your makeup in the car. It is
dangerous for not only you but for other people too. If another
driver had been coming my way I would have hit them head-on and we
most likely both would have been dead. People aren’t replaceable, but
cars are. Think about that…people aren’t replaceable. If you killed
someone with your reckless driving you would have to live with that
for the rest of your life. You would have to live with that regret,
with that stupid choice you made that caused a fatality. Driving is
not easy, driving is not like a video game. When you drive you need
to have both hands on the wheel. Take it from me. I’ve been in way
too many car accidents in my life between my mom, my brother, and I.
I know what it’s like to be thankful you’re alive. I know what it’s
like to look back on the decisions you made and regret them. I know
what it’s like, I’m a survivor. I lived to tell you this, to tell you
my story. Bad driving it’s almost like a part of nature, but it’s
not. If you use your intelligence, keep your eyes and mind on the
road, hands on the wheel you could be one of the few people who
haven’t had to experience the regret of bad driving decisions. It’s
all a choice, do you want to risk the possibility of your driving
risking your or someone else’s life? You can make your choice, as can
I. I just hope you don’t choose wrong. I don’t want another news
report hearing of someone’s death from a car accident. It can always
be avoided. Distracted driving vs defensive driving. It’s your
choice, but if I were you I’d choose defensive driving. It’s a safer,
legal choice. A choice that can save lives. A choice that can help
millions of people every day. It’s a choice that can change a lifetime
in a split second. Make the right choice. Choose defensive, not
distracted.
