Education Exceeds Ignorance

Will Durant once said “Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.” It means that learning from past mistakes makes people better and less likely to make them ourselves. Drivers ed is very important in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving because it allows us to learn from previous mistakes without going through them ourselves. Drivers ed can increase a future driver’s knowledge of ways to avoid crashing or hitting people in a vehicle or rules of the road before the driver even gets in the car. Drivers ed shows you what steps can be taken to reduce the number of driving related deaths such as putting on your seatbelt, driving defensively, and putting away electronics.

Personally, I have been in a car accident where someone hit my car. Luckily, no one was hurt, but the situation could have easily been avoided if the person was knowledgeable. To be a better and safer driver myself, I will follow the rules of the road and constantly check my surroundings while driving. To help others become safer on the road, I can make sure everyone in the car has their seatbelts on and the driver is not distracted. If we all educate ourselves and others about driver safety then the roads will become a safer place.
