Reality: Keep Your Eyes On The Road
By Jailen Brown
You cling to it,
Like rubber and tar
In the curves of the back road.
Escape the gridlocked traffic
That surprises every day,
during rush hour, to have an affair
With curves, twists, and steep hills
Those curves you know like the back of your hand
You’ve traced them, eyes closed
Since you were a babe
What wouldn’t you give,
to ride those hills again?
Effortlessly flowing through each turn,
With reckless speed.
You should slow down,
but the thrill,
The thrill is too good.
You are in control
You are safe.
As long as you stay in between those boundary lines
Of loose gravel and swamp oaks.
But-
Curiosity consumes you,
What would happen if you let go?
Let go.
Down the hellish hill, through the Triumphant trees, into Nirvana
You are betrayed, filled with false expectations.
You found no pain.
You found no hiding gods
Just the trees, the air, the clouds, the splendor,
The tree branch severing your pre-frontal cortex.
Keep your eyes on the road because, well you might die.
