Saving America One Driver at a Time

Everyone thinks that driving is easy, and that drivers ed is a waste of time, but that is not the case. It is almost guaranteed that someone can learn something about driving or vehicles from it. The more you know, the safer you’ll be. Drivers ed can teach people the little things they don’t think of. For example, knowing what every sign means can make the difference between having an accident or not.

There are numerous ways to prevent deaths related to driving. The most common would be to not drink or use a phone while driving. Drinking obviously affects the capability to function properly, so it is never a good idea to drink and drive. Phones are, of course, another big problem. There is nothing on it that is so important that it can’t wait. To even take your eyes off the road for a second can have catastrophic results. It is best to just turn your phone all the way off, that way it cannot tempt you to send that one text that could end somebody’s life. That being said, it would be beneficial in general to remove all possible distractions from your vehicle. It is also good to take simple actions such as wearing sunglasses and turning on the radio before you even put the car in drive. Driving accidents could also be prevented by following the law. It sounds easy, but there are a lot of people who don’t. For example, say there is a stop sign that never has any people at it. The one time you decide to cross that intersection without stopping, there will be someone. Laws exist for a reason, to keep people safe.

I, personally, have never been in a car accident. I have seen family members carelessly swerving around trying to be funny but that’s about it. One time my mom fell asleep while I was on the passenger side, which was kind of scary. This shows how people should never drive while tired, even a little bit. Always stop and rest or ask someone else to drive for you.

Social media is an excellent way to spread the word about the consequences of driving irresponsibly. It lets people see just how real it is. For example, I always remember the commercial where it shows a teenage boy texting everywhere he goes, but the second he gets in the car, he puts it down.

In order to promote safe driving habits, I always try and remove any distractions and follow the law as I mentioned earlier. I also ask anyone who rides with me to do the same. This way, I can help save America one driver at a time.
