The Importance Of Drivers Ed

The Importance Of Drivers ed!

In California, as every teenager approaches the age of 16, the only thing on their mind is obtaining their driver’s license, and they become increasingly frustrated when learning about all the steps that it takes before you can hop into the driver’s seat and take off. The whole process takes around 6+ months, and this frustration regarding the long process provides a very thought provoking question, is all of it necessary? In simple terms, yes. Although the process for a teenager to obtain a driver’s license is quite long and strenuous, we need to ensure the maximum amount of safety for all drivers on the road, and that can be done through driver’s training.

By requiring everyone to participate in driver’s training everyone on the road is driving with the same information. Through training individuals learn how to drive, the rules of the road and what to do and what not to do during certain situations. Something as small as knowing to stop at a red light or stop sign can potentially save a life because you know when to stop so you don’t accidentally get into a collision or run into a pedestrian. By taking everyone through the months long process of driving training, everyone is prepared for practically any situation that may arise. Another step that is being taken to ensure safety is having laws against reckless driving, such as against using your phone on the road. Using your phone while on the road is extremely reckless and dangerous, because of this there are laws placed to try to prevent this occurrence. By taking these steps, such as requiring drivers ed and having laws against reckless driving, there is likely a reduction in the number of driving related deaths.

As someone who’s been in a car accident, I know the trauma that can arise from being in this situation. I was around 13 at the time and although no one got hurt, the whole situation frightened me and resulted in me being afraid to sit in the front seat for about five months. The other car was at fault, because they weren’t paying attention, and blew through a stop sign. This incident taught me I can’t necessarily trust everyone on the road, so it is my responsibility to be vigilant for my own safety and protection. If there happens to be a reckless driver on the road and I am doing what I am supposed to be doing, I could use my training to try my best to prevent that from happening. With this, I will never be on my phone while operating my vehicle, I will advise my family and friends against reckless driving, and I will also help educate my other friends who are just learning how to drive, and make sure that they are safe and responsible drivers. All of this is necessary to ensure the safety of all drivers on the road.
