The Importance of Drivers ed

Drivers ed introduces and reinforces safe driving habits. With more cautious drivers on the road, fewer vehicular accidents will occur. The number of deaths due to drunk driving will also decrease. People who understand the consequences of driving while under the influence of drugs will be less likely to take that risk. Drivers ed also familiarizes people with potentially dangerous situations, allowing them to avoid injury. Understanding possible unexpected conditions will help drivers stay calm under pressure and stay safe. New and experienced drivers alike can benefit from drivers ed.

Reducing the number of driving-related deaths begins with proper education. Drivers ed should begin in school, where it can become familiar early on. Road safety can be incorporated into basic safety classes. While most students have yet to reach the appropriate driving age, they can still help their loved ones become safer drivers. Normalizing good driving habits can decrease the chance of death for educated drivers. Making drivers ed more widespread can lower the number of people who die from driving-related causes.

The most common type of irresponsible driving that I have witnessed is speeding. Driving too quickly can seem inconsequential. However, speeding increases the danger associated with all driving conditions. Drivers who cannot react quickly to unexpected situations are at a higher risk for injury and even death. Reminding my friends and family members to obey speed limits can help them make the road safer. I can practice driving at a safe speed to improve my driving habits and encourage my loved ones to do the same. Step by step, we will all become better drivers.

As I take steps to improve my driving, I can guide other people to follow my example. When driving with teenagers who will soon reach the appropriate driving age, I can explain how to safely perform actions such as changing lanes. I will also take responsibility when I make a mistake rather than continuing to be unsafe. It is important to correct behavior before it becomes a bad habit. My accountability will make my loved ones more receptive to my advice. Through education and leading by example, I can help decrease the risk of driving-related death.
