Take a Seat and Drive Safe

Driver education can mean the difference between life and death. Motor vehicles can be dangerous if you do not know how to properly drive them. If you don’t play it safe while driving, you could possibly end up taking a life. You may end up doing so without meaning too. We have safety precautions while driving for many reasons. You wear your seatbelt to prevent you from going through your windshield. You have air bags to prevent you from further harm in case of an accident. You have breaks to help you stop in time to avoid a collision. You have traction control that helps you to control your car when the roads are icy. You have all of these safety features and many more in your car. All of these safety features are in your car to achieve the same goal: to keep you alive and safe in your vehicle. They either help you to avoid a collision or protect you in the case of one.

To reduce the number of deaths related to driving, you should always drive defensively. Driving defensively means that you should always be looking for drivers that may drift into your lane or may not be paying attention to traffic. This may mean that you change to get out of their way and let them pass you. You may want to do this to avoid an accident. Avoid driving offensively and try to move with the flow of traffic. Weaving through traffic can be problematic and can cause issues for yourself and the other drivers around you.

You should always be conscious of your surroundings and pay attention to road conditions. If it is rainy or snowy outside, pay attention to this and slow down. You should also try to leave more space between yourself and the cars in front of you. Drunk driving is the cause of many accidents and accidental deaths caused from motor vehicle accidents. Simply having a designated driver who does not drink any alcohol can save the lives of everyone in your car and everyone in the cars around you. If you go out as a group often, switch off each time. Always be responsible when drinking. Never drive after drinking. Know your limits and if you plan on getting drunk give someone who is going to be responsible your keys. By giving your keys to someone responsible, you are protecting yourself and others by making sure that you do not have the opportunity to make poor decisions once you are intoxicated. By simply having someone to keep you from driving while intoxicated and someone to drive you home, you can reduce the amount of deaths related to driving.

You should pay attention to traffic and stay off of your cell phone while driving. If there is something you must do on your phone, you should have a passenger do it or pull off of the road a park somewhere before paying attention to your phone. If you do have to talk to someone on the phone while you are driving, use the bluetooth in your car. All of the newer cars have bluetooth in them. This is what you should use to talk on the phone if you must do so while driving. If you have to talk on the phone call, do so hands free and through your car. While driving, don’t talk on the phone through your earbuds or headphones. These things block outside sound, and if you can’t hear your surroundings you could get in an accident.

I have had the experience of being in a few car accidents in my life. My mom has gotten rear ended a couple of times before. One day we stopped at a red light and the lady driving the car in back of us did not see that we had stopped and did not stop her car. She hit the back of my mom’s car. Thankfully no one got hurt, but the driver that hit us did get a ticket and her insurance had to pay for the damage to my mom’s car.

Practicing driving will help to become a better driver more so than anything else. You can read about driving all you want but it doesn’t help you gain experience. When you drive, you should stay alert at all times and stay off of your phone. Ultimately to become a better driver, you should spend more time on the road. The more time you spend on the road, the more experience you will have driving.
