Driver Safety Scholarship Essay
As of December 31, 2019, I became a New York State licensed “permit holder”. I was so excited to have studied and aced the test to now gain the experience of moving to driver’s education classes and hands on driving time. This is very important for all drivers to have to endure. You are learning over time the rules and regulations of the road. You are taught about safety protocols and tips in all different types of weather conditions and road conditions. You are not only doing this for your personal driving safety but for the safety of others. Yes, accidents do happen. But being negligent and willingly aware of your wrongdoing and causing the accident is just plain out wrong. Rules were made for the safety and well being of us humans. Rules for wearing your seat belt, driving speeds limits, drinking and driving and now more than ever texting while driving. We are told about the many different driving conditions. We are taught safety measures not only for us but our passengers and other drivers and pedestrians on the road. Being made aware of these safety measures as early on in our driving process and in life can well possibly reduce the number of deaths and accidents.
I have a family member, my cousin, that was in a very serious car accident and she is very lucky to be alive. It all came down to the other driver and “speeding”. That is why it’s very important to abide by the rules and regulations of the road. If the driver wasn’t speeding my cousin would have never had to go through pain and suffering like she did. She will never be the same because of another driver’s careless mistake. Her life was changed forever.
Whether you are a new driver or an experienced driver, I do understand many insurance companies allow discounts if you take a refresher course every three years. I think this is a good idea so with any slight changes that may be implemented many people are made aware of. My driver’s education was cut short because of the corona virus but I am so looking forward to experiencing the knowledge of being a better driver and safer driver just like my parents are!
