Drivers Education Essay

Driver’s Education is a wide variety of programs that teaches teenagers how to drive and prepare for a permit or license. Driver’s Ed is very important because it saves billions of lives every year. According to Lincoln from Newsroom, he has stated: “A new study that followed more than 150,000 teen drivers over eight years has found that driver’s education significantly reduces crashes and traffic violations among new drivers”. These studies have shown that the more teens that take Driver’s Ed, the more crashes and accidents are prevented. Driver Ed is very beneficial to everybody, especially teens, it saves lives and reduces accidents and crashes.

There are multiple steps to be taken to counter collisions. But on a personal level, I do know people who have gotten into car accidents. For example, my cousin got into a car accident a couple of months ago. She took her older sister’s car and drove down the street to a convenience store and going north, she made a left turn and the other car was headed south and hit her. As for the resolution, she was in the wrong, she had her permit at the time, without a licensed driver in the car, you can get your license revoked. To prevent things like this from happening, people and teens from collisions, some steps they should take are making sure they are in the right state to drive, like not drinking or using drugs before driving. Another step they should take is not to use a phone or device while driving. Teens should just be cautious and make sure they are following the rules of the road; teens tend to go reckless and sometimes they can be forgetful. Forgetfulness can cause blackouts, which can cause delays on the roads, or they can react out of emotion, which might mean that they go with their instinct, which is probably not the best option.

To conclude, for me to be a safe driver, some strides I can take are joining Drivers Ed to make sure I am keeping myself and everybody else safe on the road and to teach me the proper way of driving. Another step that should be taken is to block out distractions, to be aware of my surroundings, to make sure I am in the right condition to drive, and lastly not to drink before, during, or after driving, which also goes for illegal substances. These rules can be followed by other people on the road too. I can tell these things to other people, recommend Drivers Ed or other programs/opportunities.

To keep people safe, people need to follow safety rules and regulations, take driving courses, stay focused on the road, no use of substances, make sure you know the rules of the road, listen to a licensed driver if you are still learning how to drive, make sure you are going the speed limit, making the right turn at the right time, stopping, going, and slowing down at a stoplight at the right time, looking at signs and following them, honking when someone might cause an accident, not using profound language or hand gestures at other drivers or pedestrians. Make sure you are using the right-hand gestures when your turning lights don’t work, to assure people the way you are going. Initiate the right time to yield; making sure you are fully stopping at a red light when turning right, or just fully stopping at a stop sign. Check all your mirrors when driving, be cautious of other drivers who may be wanting to change lanes, and slowing down to let them in. Turning on your blinker. To also make sure to pull over if it is raining or any weather situations arise. According to the CDC, “Teens are more likely than older drivers to underestimate or not be able to recognize dangerous situations. Teens are also more likely than adults to make critical decision errors that can lead to serious crashes”. As the CDC is indicating teens’ knowledge of driving, their knowledge is not as high as other older experienced drivers. To conclude, Drivers Ed is very beneficial to everybody, especially teens, it saves lives and reduces accidents and crashes.
