Drivers Education Essay
My top 5 reasons Drivers Education can reduce driving deaths
1. No one wants to drive with their parents-having an on-roads coach that is calm and collected
2. Learning to wear your seat belt properly
3. Learning about distracted driving
4. Learning about what to do in different weather conditions while driving
5. Testing your knowledge on road signage
Why is drivers education important. Drivers education teaches you laws and regulation but also the premise behind being a good and safe driver. At sixteen being responsible for a one ton vehicle is a big responsibility that most I am sure do not understand. There are many reasons to take drivers education, not just my top five. Learning those aspects and many more can help someone become a better, more educated driver.
Steps that can be taken to reduce deaths are wearing your seat belt, no cellphones or other devices while driving and staying alert to all that is happening around you. In drivers education I learned many of these things. I also believe that it is import to stay the speed limit, So many people are in a hurry to get somewhere and have accidents. Understanding time frames needed is important as so you can leave on time. Getting behind the wheel can be scary for some just learning. Drivers education can help eliminate some of that fear.
I my self have never had and accident per-say, However I did have a very scary thing happen and my quick response and remembering what to do kept me calm and I was able to avoid a major accident. My breaks just completely went out on my car and I was coming down a hill near my house. I knew if I kept going straight there would be an even larger hill that would cause me to accelerate even more. I turned onto a side street but my car did not slow. The side street was a dead-end street that ended into a small ravine and other homes. Trying the breaks once again with no result, I came to the end of the street, I remembered something my on roads coach told me and I slowly started to pull up on my emergency break and stopped the car before reaching the ravine, but not before I was in the yard of a complete stranger. I was pretty shaken up after the fact, but I stayed calm and was able to use my education to save the car and maybe myself.
I have very much so experienced distracted driving with friends. Checking there phones, messing with the music and eating. I have more than on one occasion had told my friends to pay attention or stay off their phones. It is important to speak up and hold each other accountable.
Drivers education taught me to be vigilant of my surrounding and other drivers. I learned many things both in class and in my on roads that are valuable. All of these reasons and more can make us better drivers and reduce driving deaths. If we each have to do our part and educate our self’s as best as possible we can make a difference. I want to be an educator and I believe education is the key to many things.
