The Road to Safe Driving

The invention of cars has been proven to be one of the most outstanding inventions of all time. These transportation devices were meant to make our lives easier by letting us go wherever we want, and very fast to. They were intended to make us happy, not take lives away. People should not by dying because of cars. This is unacceptable, slow down. There are thousands of deaths each year because of motor vehicle accidents and we must work to stop that. Nobody should have to hear that a loved one passed away because of a car accident, especially alcohol related ones. The drunk driving is what is really messed up. If you cannot drive home, then don’t! It is that simple. There is no need to put other people’s lives in danger, just because you want to be stupid and drive while drunk. An Uber is around 10 dollars, killing someone when you’re drunk driving costs your whole life. I recently lost a member of my community to drunk driving two years ago and it hurt. He went to my school, and I was friends with his siblings, and seeing them broken like that is a feeling that I hope never to see anyone else ever go through.

One way I would improve the safety of driving is by having the car not drive until the seatbelts of everyone in the car are fastened. Some cars have a noise that it makes when the seatbelts aren’t buckled, but other cars don’t even make any noise. Seatbelts can save lives, there’s no reason not to wear them. A lot of fatal accidents could have been avoided if the passengers were wearing their seatbelts correctly. Drivers also have to slow down on local residential roads. There are countless numbers of kids being hit in front their houses while playing, because cars are coming too fast down those tight roads, and don’t see the kids and hit them. This is not what should be happening.

Another way we can prevent car accidents is by reducing the speed limits on local city roads. The speeds on the highways I think are acceptable, but in the towns, the speed should not be so high. Cars also need to be engineered to have less blind spots. A lot of accidents happen because someone is trying to change lanes and they do not see the car that is in the lane next to them, because they are in their blind spot. The mirrors on cars have to be created in a way to not have any blind spots. Some cars do have blind spot detection on them now, but that still doesn’t solve all the problems, because the driver might not react to it in time, because it is only a little light that pops up in the corner of the mirror. Those are the things that I think could improve the overall safety on the roads, which could lead us to having less accidents in the future. Stay safe.
