The Importance of Driver Education

Driver education is very important in today’s world because the number of cars on the road is ever increasing. Driving Schools helps teach teenagers the rules of the road and safe driving techniques as well as the basic mechanics of driving. Learning from an experienced driver helps teenagers get an understanding of what to do behind the wheel. With this they feel more relaxed and confident in their ability to drive. With driving schools teaching prospective drivers, this will most likely help lower the death rate resulting from car crashes, because teaching teenagers now will lead them to a better understanding of the road, driver safety, to shape them to become responsible drivers.

Specific steps that can be taken to decrease the death rate from driving is to teach teenagers by showing them visually, allowing them to drive often, understand the dangers of driving and skills to prevent accidents. Showing kids visuals would entail having the driving instructor drive and talk to the teenager explaining what they are doing. For example the teacher can show them how to turn on their blinkers, lights, which pedals are for gas and break. Visuals would also include online videos that the student must watch. Next the instructor should have the kid drive with the instructor guiding them through the lessons on the street. Next step should be defensive driving skills and anticipation. You can’t trust anyone else on the road to do the right thing except yourself. At first that is a little scary, but when you start driving overtime you will feel safer, because you take the precautions to make you and anyone else in your car much safer. Also driving in bad weather must be addressed such as hydroplaning, rainstorms, icy roads, and windy days. Another major thing to teach teens is never to text and drive at the same time it takes many lives just because we were careless and checked our phone for two seconds.

When I was a kid I was in a car accident with my family. It was at night and we were stopped at a stop light, and then BOOM and a huge rush of force pushed all of us and the car forward. We were reared because the man was on his phone and didn’t see us or read the light. My grandmother was taken to the hospital because they thought that she had hurt her neck while my mom took my brothers and I home. Because of this day I will always drive responsibly and never text and drive.

In conclusion driver safety has been shown to be invaluable to the new driver. Helping them to be educated on the mechanics of a car, rules of the road, defensive driving skills, and general safety guidelines such as avoiding speeding; racing; texting and being on the phone will save many lives. This is why this type of education must be mandatory for the new driver to insure their safety on the road.
