The Importance of driver Education

The Importance of Driver Education

Drivers education is a very important thing that people need, not only to keep themselves safe, but others as well. If you don’t know who has the right of way at an intersection, or what the lines mean in the middle of the highway, or really any other basic aspect of driving. Then you’re immediately putting yourself and others at risk when you start driving. Knowing the basics is the most essential thing we can do to reduce the number of driving related deaths. Steps that could maybe be taken, requiring people to pass a test every 3-5 years, the written test at least, and possibly even the actual driving test. It would keep people sharp on the basics and increase the general knowledge and safety. Plus, a class maybe even that you have to take on spatial awareness and your surroundings, this would be to hopefully reduce death by negligence in driving. I have been in a car accident before, twice actually, the first I was with my grandparents, and they accidentally pulled in front of another pickup and we were T-boned by it. The second one I was on my way to school being driven by a family friend, when we were rear-ended by a teenage girl. She was on her phone and not paying any attention, causing her to slam right into the tail end of our pickup. Thankfully there wasn’t much damage, and everyone was oaky, but think of how many people text and drive, or look at their phone at higher speed areas like the highway. That’s when it becomes especially dangerous. That’s how people die. This leads me to another step we could take to make it safer on the road. Stricter penalties on phones, and the use of them while driving. I’m talking huge fines, and possibly even the loss of your license for a while. Every time you look at your phone while driving, you run the risk of missing a stop sign, not seeing that person in front of you breaking, or maybe not seeing that kid run out in the street after their toy, right into the way of your oncoming vehicle. The steps that need to be taken to make driving safer might not be the most popular with ever driver out there. But they are the steps we need to take to keep the roads safer, and to keep ours, and our families lives safe. No rule we put in place is too extreme if it prevents the loss of a life while driving, and educating drivers is not extreme in any way shape or form, and it wouldn’t be that hard to implement some of the things I’ve proposed. Put the class on spatial awareness in schools, the test every few years could happen when you come renew your license. We need to educate our drivers It’s the most effective way to save lives and make driving safer for all.
