Drive Safe, Arrive Safe
Drive Safe, Arrive Safe
Driver education will save lives. People who drive around recklessly are putting themselves and lots of other people in harm’s way. People have to put so much trust in the drivers next to them on the road to be safe and smart. If all people would know and follow the rules of the road, multitudes of innocent people’s lives would be saved. To keep the number of driving related deaths to a minimum, people need to be informed from the get go. When teenagers turn sixteen and go to get their license, there should be a written or oral test in place going over the not as commonly talked about rules of the road. This will help to keep the teenagers informed because they will need to prepare for this questionnaire. This would also keep the parents of the teenagers fresh on the rules because they would have to teach the rules to their children and help them learn the guidelines. This could not 100% eliminate bad driving, but an oral or written test about uncommon rules and scenarios of driving could be a great first step in reducing the number of driving related deaths. I have been in the car with a friend who was driving over 100 miles per hour on the highway. My parents and I do not choose to even get close to this speed when we are driving. At first, I thought it was a little fun and exhilarating to be driving that fast. Then all of the reasons why driving 100 miles per hour is not safe came flooding into my mind. I can remember hoping that she would either get us back home safely and get the ride over with or get pulled over by the police. If she would have gotten pulled over, it would have been scary because she was breaking the law, but it would have ensured we drove safe the rest of the way and kept other people on the road safe as well. To make for certain that I stay safe and keep others safe on the road, I can make it painfully obvious what I will not tolerate while I am driving and while others are driving. This could seem a bit annoying to others at first, but if my being annoying keeps myself and others safe, then it will be all worth it.
