Importance Of Driver’s Education
-
What is the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving?
Driver education is essential in reducing deaths caused by driving because a more educated driver can make the right decisions when put in an emergency situation. If they see a car driving erratically, they will know to be cautious and keep their distance and maybe call the highway traffic police to report the driver so that no one is harmed. Driver education is also essential to root out drivers who cannot follow directions and prevent them from operating a vehicle. Offering incentives are a great way to get people to take drivers education courses, some insurance companies already do this but it needs to be implemented across the whole car industry.

What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving?
Learning traffic laws and practicing safe habits will also significantly reduce the number of accidents caused by motor vehicles. Not fully stopping at a stop sign or blowing past a yellow light in a busy intersection can result in hitting pedestrians and other vehicles. Having officers patrol busy streets or streets with stop signs that are ignored can help solve the issue short term but they are not effective long term. Traffic cameras are perfect ways to keep drivers in check. Practicing habits that are drilled into you while taking driver education courses will help prevent accidents and keep you safe on the road and away from traffic infractions. Mandating driver’s ed courses every 2-4 years might not be a bad idea to make sure drivers are aware of traffic laws and have the knowledge required to make the best decisions while on the road.

Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly?.
I have friends that drive past stoplights, stop signs, and Overspeed on a regular basis with no regard for the law, I keep asking myself how some people get licenses so easily. It makes me upset sometimes because there are so many people who die from car accidents each year which, the majority of the time, isn’t their fault. It’s not fair to pedestrians and other responsible drivers to have irresponsible on the roads. Motor Vehicles are deadly when used by irresponsible drivers and these drivers need to have thorough training before they operate them.

What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road?
The number one rule I have is not to look at my phone while driving. I keep it on driving mode so that I don’t get notifications when I drive and so that I don’t have the urge to open it while I am stopped at a stoplight. Number two is to always practice 6-second driving where I also take into account what cars are doing in front of the car in front of me so that I don’t have to react last second. Using this rule can help prevent drivers from being distracted by external factors because they will be too busy on the cars in front of them. Number three is to always keep a cool head and not care about mistakes other drivers make while I am driving so that I don’t do something irrational. You only have one life and to throw it away because you were mad at another person is foolish. Number four is to always keep both of my hands on the steering wheel when I am driving because then I can’t multitask with the other hand and in doing so, I decrease the number of distractions in the car with me. The final rule I follow is to call out when other drivers are driving irresponsibly and to correct them. I also try to stay quiet and respectful of the driver when I am a passenger because driving requires a lot of focus.
