Be safe and in Control
Driver education is important because it teaches us the basics of driving, so we don’t create any accidents. They help prepare us before we actually drive in the real world. It guides us, advises us, and gives us knowledge on how to keep the people in the car and the people around us safe. Taking classes reduces the percentage of potential accidents. Especially since the fatality rates are at its highest at 16-18 years old. We learn skills, rules, regulations, signs, etc. While being on the road, we can use what we learned in drivers education and put it to good use. It’s important to remember what you’ve learned because it’s important to stay safe. You should always look at your surroundings. Look at your rearview and side view mirrors oftenly. Especially when changing lanes or parking because those can be difficult, but with practice you will get it. Pay attention to signs and the speed limit. You definitely don’t want to get a ticket. Make sure to practice a lot with a person who has a drivers license and is experienced. Always remember to keep your seatbelt on. You should absolutely never ever drink and drive because that will increase your chances of getting into an accident and endanger yourself, possible passengers inside your car, and the people in the other car. One day, I was on my school bus, going home. There was a red light, then all of a sudden, the car behind us crashed into the bus. The whole bus shook, but the car that hit us was almost bent in half. Luckily, the driver was okay. We had to get on another bus after that. There were many events where I saw my family members getting into an accident or almost getting into an accident. Many years ago, my mom got a ticket for driving a little past the speed limit. One night my cousin wanted to go out and had to reverse out of the parking lot. However, there was a car blocking almost all of his space to back up, but they wouldn’t move it, so he proceeded to reverse the care out. Which then led him to scratching one of our neighbors’ cars. We let the neighbors know and they were really understanding. To become a better and safer driver, it’s always important to remember what you learned in drivers education. You should always keep your hands on the wheel, in the proper positions. You should never text and drive as well. That also increases your chances of being in an accident. Being distracted while driving is very dangerous. Doing this puts you, possible passengers, and the other driver at risk. You should always be alert, have a good attitude, and be in the right mindset. Don’t speed, stick to the speed that you are comfortable with. Make sure you know what kind of car you are driving. Know its mechanics, you shouldn’t get on the road with a car you’re not familiar with. When you’re in the driver’s seat, you are responsible for everyone’s safety including your own. Although it can be overwhelming and is a lot of pressure, stay calm and collected, do not panic or else you’ll put everyone at risk. Make sure to use your turn signals when necessary. It’s good to plan out where you are going, so you don’t miss any turns or exits. It’s good to keep a G.P.S. or an app on your phone. Make sure you have supervision until you get your driver’s license and when you are comfortable enough to drive alone, and then have passengers. Continue to practice, drive in new areas, get used to your car, etc. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes. Always be in control of yourself. You should absolutely never ever drink and drive because that will increase your chances of getting into an accident and endanger yourself, possible passengers inside your car, and the people in the other car. Drivers education is important for all of our safety. It teaches us the importance of being safe on the road and the skills. We should put this knowledge into good use.
