The Black Cloud of Careless Driving

How excited were you when you first received your learner’s license and could finally drive a car?

Let me tell you that I was super excited to be finally able to drive a car.

At that time, I did not realize that with driving a car comes a huge sense of responsibility and awareness.

New and young drivers are extremely prone to car accidents as they lack the experience and maturity to distinguish between safe driving and rash driving. Most of the youngsters think that over speeding and not following the traffic rules makes them look cool in front of their social circles. Many of they also participate in drag racing without giving a thought to the dangers that accompany it.

According to several researches, it has been deduced that the average accident rate among teenage drivers is much higher than the older drivers. This is also because driving is a complex activity which improves with experience and practice and also includes a myriad of basic skills which are essential for a safe driving experience.

The skills are provided before full licensing is permitted. This is done either under the supervision of a licensed adult or by in-class and in-vehicle training. The value of a formal education and training is always considered to be superior and are generally accepted as an effective method for learning to drive and preparing for the road test.

Providing a proper driver education is by far the most efficient way of reducing road accidents. This belief has also lead to the establishment of the professional driving schools in the United States. It is a widespread belief that if the morals and awareness required to become a responsible driver is introduced to the drivers at a young age, then it proves to be more efficient and effective.

But sometimes, even after learning the dangers of careless driving, some people ignore these facts and carry about doing what they want.

For instance, there has been several cases of road accidents in my family. I would like to share one of them.

My uncle is an orthopedic surgeon. One night, he was late because he had an emergency surgery. The next day he had to leave for a conference in Germany. Thus, he had to reach home quickly. He was driving through a bridge at a speed higher than the limit. It had rained an hour ago which made the roads slippery. Suddenly, he lost control of the car and it went over the bridge and straight into the lake below. He was lucky that all the windows were closed which prevented the water from entering the car. the car was badly damaged and the entire hood of the car was squashed to a pulp. He somehow managed to get out of the car. a lot of people had gathered by then and they helped him out of the lake. By god’s grace, my uncle was not seriously injured. The cops arrived soon after. They called my grandparents and my mother. My uncle was taken to the hospital for some tests to check for the presence of any internal injury.

He was lucky to have escaped such a huge accident with merely a sprained wrist but everyone is not that lucky. Such an accident could have taken a much disastrous turn.

People read about road accidents all the time but still do not realize the intensity of the dangers of rash driving. They will comment on other people’s driving skills but do nothing to improve their own. They believe that nothing could harm them. Most people give the excuse that they were over speeding because they had some urgent business to attend to but they do not realize that nothing is more important than their lives. Moreover, by not following the traffic rules, they are endangering the other people on the road too.

The most effective way to ensure the safety of everyone on the road is defensive driving. Defensive driving can save as much time as money and keep the roads safer for everyone. It will help us to navigate in any road or traffic conditions and anticipate the possibility of a mishap.

As a responsible driver, I would never increase by speed beyond the limit and never adhere to anyone who is not following the traffic rules even if they bully me. Another reason for accidents is that the people speak on their phones while driving. They are utterly engrossed in their smartphone world and forget to concentrate on the real world. this can cost somebody’s life but still they refuse to listen.

People often are spotted driving without wearing a seat belt which is both illegal and dangerous. Defensive driving might seem dull and boring, but safety should be the paramount consideration on the road.
