With a population of 450,000, Atlanta is the 8th largest city in the US and is also classed as an “alpha” or world city, ranking 36th on that list.
We love Atlanta because there are so many things to see and do (not just because we teach online driving to Georgia teens, too). To begin with, Atlanta is the official home of the film “Gone With The Wind”, and boasts the “Road to Tara” museum where you can “step into the sweeping romance of Rhett Butler & Scarlett O’Hara”. You can also see Margaret Mitchell House, where you will find her writing desk and period furnishings.
There is the Center for Puppetry Art, where you can see Kermit the Frog. You can grab a coffee and sit in the sun in Decatur Square, and read a book, or simply people watch.
And when you get your teen driver permit, you can take Mom and Dad to these attractions. Or, when you get your full license, you can leave them at home and go with your friends.
Get Up Close To The Dinosaurs!
You could go to the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, and get up close and personal with dinosaurs, one of which measures 120’ long!
Then, if you are feeling brave, you can go to the Georgia Aquarium where you can actually swim with the whale sharks!
If art is your thing, then you could spend a long time in the High Museum of Art, which houses more than 13,000 modern and contemporary works.
Jackson Street Bridge: A Drive-To Atlanta Destination
Then there is the Jackson Street Bridge. Take a walk over it at sunset, and you can take a selfie with the beautiful backdrop of the downtown skyline as a background.
Political animal? Why not visit the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum which houses a replica of the Oval Office, together with gifts and mementoes that Carter received during his time as president.
Take a trek through the treetops on SkyHike or take a real hike (or the Summit Skyride) to the top of the mountain for beautiful city skyline views. Tour the antebellum plantation or ride around Stone Mountain by train and see the world’s largest light show projected on it!
Visit Zoo Atlanta in the historic Grant Park area, and admire the young pandas which were born in 2013.
So Much To Do
