Driver’s
Education is important in many ways, including reducing deaths. The
average number of deaths per year resulting from car accidents is
34,000 people. Drivers ed reduces this number by teaching
new drivers good safety habits when driving. Drivers ed
also allows new drivers to become comfortable on the road.

There
are many steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths
relating to driving. The first step is to inform, drivers need to
know more than what not to do, they also need to know the results if
they choose to participate in certain bad driving habits. Step two
can consist of helping a driver learn to prevent bad habits of
driving. For example, if someone needs to break a bad habit of
texting while driving, they can prevent that by putting their phone
in the trunk or back seat. Another example includes speeding, drivers
can be taught how to use cruise control and the correct time to use
it.

Personally,
I have been in many situations where I felt as if the person driving
was participating in bad driving habits. For instance, many people
text while driving or take their eyes off the road to look at
something outside. My best friend believes that you shouldn’t have
your hands at “ten and two”, so she drives with her hands at the
bottom of her steering wheel. This can be dangerous if she was in an
accident, the air bag would hit her face instead of her wrists.

A
step I can take to improve my driving skills is limiting distractions
such as my cellphone. I can also use cruise control to prevent myself
from speeding. Another good driving habit includes sitting up
straight with both hands on the wheel. I can better the driving of
others by sharing these steps with the people I know. These are the
steps I can take to better the driving of myself and others.
