Driving
is a useful practice that gets many people all over the world to
school, work, family member’s houses, and many more places.
However, people are oftentimes blinded by this new-found freedom, or
perhaps get used to it, and forget about the great responsibility and
grave dangers coming with it.
Drivers
are always in serious danger of getting into a car accident, mostly
because of failure to comply with driving safety rules. The more
drivers there are on the road, the greater this danger is, and the
chances of death by an accident increase as well. The simple solution
to reduce the strikingly-increasing number of fatalities is to
widespread driving safety rules and practices to ensure that all
drivers, both new and old, are actively taking the necessary measures
to ensure the safety of themselves, their passengers, and other
fellow drivers.
There
are many precautions that can be taken by all drivers to reduce the
dangers on the road. For student drivers, they must remember to
listen to the instructions of their instructor, a trusted adult. They
must make an effort to learn about driving rules early on to ensure a
safe driving career for many years to come. For teenagers, it would
be useful for them to actively remember the very real dangers of
being on the road, primarily so that they become further motivated to
practice safe driving always. They should also make a point to not
use their phones while driving and take practical and helpful
measures to do so. For example, if they know they like to choose
their own music to drive to, they should prepare a playlist
beforehand, instead of attempting to change a song that comes on that
they don’t like. Furthermore, if they are worried they will not be
able to resist an incoming text, they should turn off their text
notifications during their travel to eliminate the temptation. As for
adults, it could be very helpful for them to learn about features
offered on many phones that fight against phone usage while driving.
For example, Apple’s Do Not Disturb While Driving could be turned
on, which would be a simple, yet effective, tactic, especially for
older drivers, as they have already become accustomed to their own
techniques and safe-driving strategies. All drivers, however, must
not get too comfortable with their own driving skills, as they must
remember that they are not exempt from driving rules, road signs,
and, above all, the law.
Although
I have not experienced a car accident, I have seen some of my friends
driving irresponsibly in little, yet dangerous ways. For example,
trying to find different music to listen to at red lights and going
about 5 mph over the speed limit. Although seemingly small, it is
important to recognize that the simple acts of changing a bop or
driving a tad too fast can result in tragedy. To ensure that I am
always driving cautiously and safely, I can take all strategies I
previously recommended.
