Drivers Education

Every year hundreds of thousands of students become eligible to be in control of a three-thousand-pound death machine. There is a mandatory class that must be taken, but it can be taken after the drivers permit test is done. This means that a student can drive a car without the drivers education class for at least nine months. The day the learners permit test is taken the student can drive, without any practice or training, only with an adult in the passenger seat with zero control except their voice. During the months before having driving lessons with the driving instructor, the student is learning to drive for the first time and will start to make their own habits, which could be very hard to fix after they have been practicing that way for months. These habits could be the reason for the increasing number of motor vehicle deaths.

Drivers education is the only real training that these students get before going off on their own. If driver’s education class was mandatory to attend before the learners permit test can be taken it would most likely to help create good driving habits, which will decrease the likelihood of getting into an accident. Being able to start driving with the correct habits and immediate responses to either positive events or mistakes helps correct them faster, maybe even on the same trip. Driving with the instructor can really help students who are nervous to start driving, because they do have control over the brakes and can stop an accident if the student is not in control. Drivers education is vital to the process of learning how to drive and if taken seriously can reduce the risk of getting into a fatal accident.

Many accidents are caused because of human error. This includes distractions, impaired, recklessness, or bad conditions. Steps can be taken to prevent these errors, which can prevent fatal accidents. Putting cell phones away, and only focusing on the road, not the passengers, will get rid of many of the distractions that there are in todays world. Drinking and driving can also be prevented by either knowing that they are going to drive and act responsibly or if they are going to drink have a designated driver. Recklessness can also be caused by impaired driving, or improper training from the drivers ed class, plus not paying attention during it. So, with proper drivers ed training and not drinking and driving can prevent recklessness. Bad conditions include driving in bad weather like rain, snow, sleet, hail, or wind. If possible staying home or where you are during events like this can prevent being in an accident. Many steps can be completed to reduce the amount of deaths due to driving.

Personally, I have never been in or have had family members in a car accident. But I have seen my family and friends driving irresponsibly. I have and will continue to stop my friends and family from driving distracted. Most of the time they are using a cell phone while driving, so I ask if I can text or call whoever they are wanting to talk to. If they say no, or anything of that nature I ask if it can wait so that they can focus solely on the road. While I drive, I put my phone into a center console, so that I can not even see it, just in case I do get a notification and get tempted to respond. I also try my best to remember everything my driving instructor told me to do, so that I can become the best driver I can be. Without the drivers education classes there probably would be thousands more accidents every day.
