Lives Lost to Car Accidents

Abigail Bates

Every day approximately 3,287 people are killed just from car accidents. Some of these people make mistakes causing the accident and others are just victims. About 1.25 million people die every year from a car accident and 20 to 50 million leave a car accident injured or paralyzed. So many people are dying because they make mistakes while driving and all of this could be prevented by one course. The drivers safety course teaches people how to properly drive a motor vehicle safely.

Every day 9 people die in a car accident because of texting and driving. This could be avoided by checking your phone or putting on a playlist before putting the vehicle in drive. If you receive a text message or phone call that’s important pull over and put the vehicle in a complete stop before touching your phone. 29 people die every day from driving while intoxicated or better known as drinking and driving. You should never get behind the wheel knowing you are too drunk or high to operate a motor vehicle. Call a friend or a cab to go home and pick your car up another day. Don’t put other people and your own life at risk.

Always remember that safety should always come first especially since an average car is 4,000 pounds and a truck is anywhere between 5000 and 7000 pounds. When you get into a car the first thing you should always do is put your seatbelt on. Check your phone before you put the vehicle into drive. If there is an important text message or phone call you need to answer then pull over and put the vehicle into a complete stop before touching your phone. Make sure you pay attention to all of the road signs and don’t forget their meanings. Make sure you do the speed limit and pay attention to where there are sharp turns. Stop and yield when you are told to do so. All of the signs have important meanings and are put in a specific spot for a reason.

The driver safety course is to help teach new and experienced drivers the safety precautions that should be taken when driving. There are a lot of laws set in place for people operating motor vehicles because of how dangerous they are. When you aren’t careful you and other people could potentially get hurt or killed. At least 40,000 people die every decade from car accidents. I believe more people should take the drivers safety course to help prevent the amount of lives we lose every day , year , and decade to car accidents.
