Being a licensed driver is an earned privilege not just given to anyone. Most teenage driver’s only think about driving their friends around or going on road trips, however, most people truly don’t understand the importance of driving safely. Now don’t get me wrong, driving your friends and going on road trips is fun and all, but using safe driving techniques is something that should always be on your mind.

Driver’s education is a key concept that you need to obtain your license and ultimate freedom. In all honesty, I just wanted to get it over with so that I could be able to drive on my own, but the point of driver’s education is to not just “get it over with”, it is to understand how to drive safely so that you will be a successful driver. Learning how to drive safely through driver’s education can be the prevention to many accidents and can even save lives, including yours. Many innocent lives have been taken due to poor and careless driving, but if people pay attention during driver’s education, innocent lives will be saved, rather than lost.

Being able to drive safely to reduce the number of deaths related to driving can be ultimately life changing. Taking driver’s education seriously, having no distractions, not drinking and/or smoking while driving and having nothing but your full attention on the road is just a few simple steps to reduce the number of deaths during car accidents. Sadly, something so simple is seen as difficult by many, which is why many lives are lost every year.

Many people each have different types of distractions while driving. Whether it is a cellular device, the music being too loud, friends being obnoxious or simply having little to no knowledge of safe driving. I have personally experienced friends not driving safely because the music is too loud which distracts them from what is on the road, which can be very dangerous. Aside from the music, I also know a lot of people who actively text and drive, which we all know is the main cause of car accidents and ultimately people losing their lives.

As said in the last paragraph, I know of many people who make poor decisions which leads them to not drive as safely as they should be, which is why steps should be taken in order to allow them to drive safer and make better decisions. The first step is to have a serious talk with my friends and let them know that what they are doing is irresponsible and can lead to a car accident which puts lives at stake, including mine. Secondly and most importantly, let them know that the consequences are serious, including jail time, a very expensive ticket, taking a life or even losing yours. Not only would I tell that to my friends, but I would also take the same advice from myself.

Driving safely is so important that lives and the safety of others depend on it. Making sure you follow the correct steps to driving safely, paying attention during driver’s ed or even simply watching videos on safe driving can change everything. Like I said, the lives of others, including yourself, depend on it.
