“A responsible Driver”
A responsible Driver
I’ve recently started driving, at the beginning of this global pandemic, my sister had gifted me with a Honda accord and I was ready to “roll”, but was I really? Prior to getting this vehicle I’d only sat in the back seat or the front, never observed the driver or the different mechanisms used, I just sat and enjoyed the ride. The time eventually arrived when friends wanted to hang, and see my new vehicle but I had stipulations. I quickly became a safe driver because I knew the outcome of what cars can produce if not careful, for instance my mom had rules when I was being brought up. She didn’t drive in ice, rain, nor did she speed when I was curious as to why mom never “smashed the gas” or “put the peddle to medal” she always responded with the same calm, still voice; “son, vehicles are not meant to be played with” I recollect her telling a story about a game night at her house before I was even born. She told me she was rushing to the store in the hurry while it was raining to get some cheese and additional items from the store so that she could prepare the dinner for that evening, she explained as she was speeding down the freeway she’d lost control of the vehicle and failed through a ditch with my eldest sister, while she at the time was only an infant; I immediately begin to understand the relevance of driving safely. Additionally, before I could drive my mom required that I and my brother strictly took the drivers test and excelled at it, hearing of the staticits and possibilities of dying in a car wreck with a friend was surprising and scary. This help me to understand that through driver’s education I could simply be aware of things and prevent them by being in the known. For me, it was identifying what risk I faced as a teenage driver and making sure I did and followed things differently according to the driver education course. Hearing of lives that has been taken in my family and to those that are dearest to me, it helps me to understand the importance of safe driving, and also help me to visually understand if you can prevent something especially as traumatic and atrocious as loosing your life or someone else’s make sure you prevent it. While I have never personally been affected in a car wreck, I care enough about others around me and hearing the stories of those people, serves me just as much if it was me. I believe some safety and preventive tips that can help is to firstly examine where you going, is it crucially important? Do you need to go? Are you in the mind frame to successfully make it there and back? Avoid as many trips as possible, the less you drive the more of the chance you have to be alive. Secondly, who are you going with? Sometimes it’s easier to travel alone, and it’s the safest option. Thirdly, you have to drive for others around you too. I’ve been in some situations where I wasn’t the one in the wrong when jumping from one lane to another but actually the other driver. The truth is it’ll come a time where you won’t be the one responsible yet you still have to anticipate the right speed to travel at, what might a car do, sometimes you may have to stay at red light longer than normal but if it equates to your safety be willing to do so. Don’t be a dare devil to be cute, driving is nothing to be played with your life is at stake every time you decide to put the key into the ignition and at the very moment that the spark plug ignites the engine through the energy of the battery and every other key component in that vehicle your life is now in your hands and it’s even more so risky if you don’t take precaution or do silly things to deviate from what you know as a driver.
