IN THE DRIVERS SEAT – ROAD SAFETY & EDUCATION.
1) Driver’s education can actually teach future drivers how to be safer on the roads; it can stress the importance of abiding by the road laws that a simple permit test can’t. While a permit test can be useful, I feel like it only teaches signs and other things like that, which isn’t the most important thing to know when driving. We need to implement some sort of drivers education course to actually teach our future drivers why they need to listen to the speed limit and other major road laws, and the actual consequences that can occur if they don’t. (E.g: being fined, losing their license, risking harming or killing someone, jailtime, etc.)
2) Require new drivers to take a short drivers education course that actually teaches them the information they need to know. Require future drivers of all ages to have at least 60 hours of driving practice before being able to take their intermediate/license test. Educate them on the risks of drunk driving and the consequences that could occur — including heavy fines, losing their license, jail time, or even vehicular manslaughter/death.
3) I have been in the car while my relative drove very irresponsibly. They were speeding around sharp curves after it had just snowed that day. It was horrifying, and it showed that they clearly didn’t care so much for the laws of the road. It especially annoyed me because they spoke to me as if I didn’t understand the laws, when I myself am an extremely safe driver. I feel like they need to take a drivers education course.
4) Check myself every time I drive. Make sure I abide by the road laws, and if I don’t, have some sort of way to chide and discipline myself; additionally, if I experience any road rage, I should learn to talk myself down from it before any possible mistake may happen. Self-discipline is very useful for things like driving, because you can teach yourself how you ought to properly act on the road. It can be even more helpful if driving courses aren’t available to you, or if you barely passed/knew what was on your permit test.
