My Experience with Driving

My name is Holly Flory, and I am 38 years old. When I first started driving my parents had me take a driver’s education course. I found it to be very helpful. I still remember some of the things I learned in the class. They had me take the course to have a decrease in car insurance. Thankfully I have not been in a serious accident while I was driving. I feel that I am a cautious driver. I always make my passengers wear their seatbelts. I tell them that I would feel horrible if we got into an accident and something happened to them while I was driving. I also remember the number of car lengths between cars and ninety-five percent of the time I adhere to that rule. I do not want to have an accident because they had to stop abruptly and I was right on their back fender. I believe that driver’s education is important for young people. It gives them on-road time with a trained instructor, and it gives them more drive time and experience.

I know from experience that driver’s education teaches young people the importance of safe driving. It’s a one on one experience with a trained professional. The education that they receive teaches the new driver safe driving practice and guidelines to adhere to. Driver education gives young adults extra time on the road when the parents are busy at work or doing other life activities. People are so busy today that we don’t have extra time to give the education that the young drivers need. The more an individual can practice with a trained professional the more on the road knowledge and experience they can learn. Driver education provides knowledge to reduce the risk of fatalities.

There many things that can be done and practiced to reduce the number of fatalities on the road. For one many people text while driving. This has become a big issue in the number of accidents and deaths on the road. Driving slowly in bad conditions. Where I live we have a lot of snow and ice, and some areas aren’t graveled very well. So I take my time and drive slowly. Another would be having more knowledge of the driving laws reduces the risks of car accidents. Many people do not pay attention to their surroundings while driving. I had someone bump into me while driving on the freeway. Thankfully no one was hurt, but it could have been a very bad accident. They didn’t check the passenger side lane.

Having more experience on the road reduces the risk of accidents. A big issue is focusing on the radio instead of the road. It is easy to get distracted by changing the cd to the song you want to listen to. Finally, not driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. I know several people who have survivors remorse because they work drunk while driving, wrecked the car, and one of their passengers died. Some of the ways I cannot be distracted while driving would be not being distracted by the radio not using my hands-free feature in my car.
