Safety Driving

Safety Driving

I believe that driver education prior to obtaining a license is important because it helps teenagers learn vehicle control and traffic maneuvers. Unfortunately, this day and age teenagers have a lot of distractions while driving including music, cell phones and of course their gang of friends. Learning those skills can help drivers at the time of need know what it is to get of whatever situation in a safe way. It teaches students how to safely operate a vehicle at night, how to act accordingly while in busy traffic and during other dangerous circumstances. I took a driver’s class before obtaining my license and it was the best decision I could have made, seeing as how now I know safety precautions when it comes to the road. I practice safe driving on a regular and over the years I have learned that it’s important to stay focused and to not let anything distract you. I have learned that if its important enough you can pull over to the next gas stop and handle there so that not only are you in a safer position but everyone else on the road is as well. Not only did I learn rules and regulations I learned how to maneuver in ways I didn’t know before. I learned parallel parking which is considered one of the hardest things to do. I can now say I am a pro at it and driving school is the reason for that. Teenagers are not the only ones who can benefit from a driver’s education class. I believe it is a class that can benefit all ages. Especially those who are stuck in their ways or used to having bad driving habits because they have had them for so long. It could help them learn the right ways to maneuver their vehicle as well as help them come familiar with rules they may have not known. For example, “10 and 2.” “10 and 2” is a phrase used so that way a driver would know where their hands are supposed to be placed on the steering wheel for the proper hand control. She laughed and called me a liar and then looked it up. Turns out I was right. So, at that moment I taught her something I learned and from then on, her hands were in the propped place. So, this just further proves my point that older generations can benefit by taking a driving class. An average of 34,000 people dies each year as a result of driving. If everyone, teens and adults included would take a driving class and learn all necessary skills when it comes to driving those numbers can decrease incredibly. Not only does taking the class help but also reading the drivers manual. A lot of people do not know the driver’s manual exists either. There is so much education included in this book informing young drivers and older as well about signage, safety precautions and rules on the road that some people never knew existed. If drivers were to make sure they are getting all necessary education that is needed, life on the road would be a much safer place.
