Precaution Lives with Better Education

Precaution Lives with Better Education

“Sometimes it’s the smallest decisions that can change your life forever”- Keri Russell. When I received my learners permit, I was excited, but mostly afraid because I knew the responsibility I held inside my hands now and the trust I was given by the state. I understood that now my choices on the road can affect others just as well as it affects me and that now I have a larger sense of power. Power that can take me from place to place, carry larger loads, a place for friends and family, and a weapon to kill and harm if I look away for even a second.

In the present time acquiring permission to drive is easy. Drivers Education holds importance in teaching you situations you might encounter in real life. Just like how you go to school to learn skills that you will apply to real life driving school does the same in teaching you road signs and how to handle other drivers and how to practice safety and attention on the road and abilities that will keep you and others safe. Driving school allows you to see the impact of your decisions on the open road where you end up making the wrong ones. Going to a driving school is what made me think more deeply about driving. I learnt that driving no matter how liberating it is, is dangerous and you have the power to take lives with a push of the acceleration or the turn of the wheel. The Simplicity in society does nothing to put caution in young minds thinking of picking up friends or texting and it shows in statistics.

For Example, my siblings and I were dropping off supplies for a family friend when we clipped an expensive car around a corner and It all happened because we were paying too much attention to the radio resulting in a $500 lawsuit. The event showed me the impact of not paying attention and the consequences that follow.

The steps involved in change should start from the beginning.America should include drivers ed in their school curriculums and see how numbers drop when you teach teens from the start how their maturity and impact on the road matters.

The steps that I can take involve planning ahead, staying alert, and taking from the past. Doing these simple actions can make me a better driver. For others, it’s simply following the rules society has put forth to ensure safety and make better choices.
