Solutions from Distractions

Driving has become a task that we do each and every day. When drivers begin to learn how to drive it is important that they learn the right way. That’s just one simple step to help reduce the accidents caused by drivers. Also I think that if we don’t have as many distractions while driving it would be safer. That means turning off your phone ringer so you don’t get distracted by your notifications. That also means getting your car fully prepared before you even leave to go to your next destination. Check your mirrors, seat adjustments and air before you leave. These few factors could save many lives.

I personally have been in two car accidents in my whole 18 years of life. One happened four years ago and my mom had been driving. We were crossing an intersection and a car ran right into the back end of her car. We flipped two times and if it weren’t for our seatbelt my mom and I wouldn’t be here today. We ended up landing on the side of my moms car and we couldn’t get out for a couple of minutes. We were able to break out of the door that was in the air but it did take awhile. I still struggled a while after the accident and it was hard to deal with getting in cars and driving around in them. Even if you do survive an accident that severe it still takes a toll on your mental health for a long time.

My second car accident had actually been only three days ago. I was sitting at a red light for around 20 seconds and a car ran right into the rear end of my car. It was very scary because I wasn’t expecting a car to run into the back of my car at all. I was driving responsibly but the car that hit me was not. One thing about driving is you may be able to trust that you are doing the right thing when driving, but you can’t always trust the people driving around you. Both of these accidents that I have experienced wouldn’t have happened if the other drivers would simply just pay attention to their surroundings. I have been so fortunate to have not been severely hurt but I could have easily been. Driving isn’t a game or meant to be a fun way to race around with your friends. It’s a way to get from point A to point B. Driving is a responsibility because you have everyone’s lives in your hands around you.

Overall, I think that we need to get rid of all the distractions we may have while driving. That is the main way we can decrease these car accidents. That is also how I will personally help decrease those numbers because I will not be distracted by unnecessary things around me. I will be a responsible driver because I don’t ever want to put anyone through what I have been through. Another way you can personally save yourself is to wear your seatbelt at all times. I am just one example of how I could have added to that huge number of casualties if I hadn’t been wearing mine that night, four years ago or three days ago. We all need to protect each other and keep everyone safe when dealing with cars. In one split second of not paying attention we can take away someone’s life. No one should ever have to deal with that, so that is why we need to understand that we can’t allow ourselves to be distracted by our phones, etc. We need to be focused and looking around at all of our surroundings the whole time while we are driving. These are only a few main ways we can lower that huge casualty number.
