Importance of Safe Driving
Throughout our lives we are taught to always drive safe and to beware of surroundings when around moving vehicles. The importance of driver education needs to happen more often than what is required. When getting my license at a young age I was only required to take a four hour class on the different rules of the road and the importance of paying attention while driving. I think there should be more than just a four hour class in order to determine if fit for the road. Having multiple driving classes and a series of tests should be required in order to obtain your driver’s license and signify that you are responsible enough to drive safely. I feel as though the more classes each of us take on driver safety the less deaths would occur. The importance of driving safe hits home for me. Two years ago, my half sister died in a car crash, which resulted from her either not paying attention to the road and/ or texting and driving. She had just gotten her license two months before this accident occured and did not have to undergo any type of written test or four hour class that I had too because she was well over the required age to obtain her license. I think that schools should also provide mandatory classes when they reach the age, to get a better understanding of the importance of safe driving on the road. It should of course count as a high school credit and schools shouldnt take this matter lightly since, high school is during that time when students are first beginning to drive back and forth to school without any parental authority in the car. I also feel its important to know and acknowledge other peoples driving around you, such as if somebody is driving reckless and or in some type of distress the actions that need to be taken to make sure everybody on the road is safe including the driver of the car. I feel as though if undergoing such classes she would be more knowledgeable of her surroundings and know the importance of driver safety. I, myself have not been in a car accident, only a couple bumper accidents, but I do know of friends who have been in accidents as a result of careless driving and not paying attention. For me, I think being more aware of what’s around me and paying attention would make me a better driver. I feel that I am a good driver right now, but only being behind the wheel five years, I dont have the road experience as many other older adults would, but being more careful would lessen the risk of me harming others or myself as a driver. Safe driving is something I feel strongly about and others in the community and the world should feel the same as well because our lives could be taken in a flash.
