All It Took Was Two Seconds

All It Took Was Two Seconds

I finally got my license in the summer of 2020. I was about to turn eighteen. I had a learner permit for almost two years and took drivers education. Well I got a car at Easter, a 2010 ford escape. So, when I got my license in July, I thought, “I am so cool!”. I had only been driving for about two weeks at the time. It was a Sunday afternoon and I had gone to my friend Paige’s house. It was getting later and Paige’s mom asked me to stay for dinner. My mom hesitated but said, “Ok. Please don’t stay out past dark.”. An hour later my mom called and asked if I was on my way home. I told her I was pulling out of the drive way. My mom said, “please take your time.”. It was dusk and I was coming over a hill and looked down at my GPS on my phone for just two seconds. That’s all it took. When I looked up, I was driving into a guard rail. It all happened so fast. I could not swerve or break fast enough. I hit my car on the front on the driver’s side. I heard the crunch. I was alright, no one else was hurt. I cried and began to shake. A man, that lived there, came out to check on me. I called my mom and she and my dad came to get me. The man waited with me until my parents got there to make sure I would be okay. My car had to be towed. The insurance adjuster said I was lucky I didn’t deploy the airbags but the radiator was punctured. All in all, I got my car fixed, minus a five hundred dollar detectable I paid. From now on I will always keep my eyes on the road and be aware of my surroundings and listen to my mom. Oh, and did I mention my dad is a Farmers Insurance Agent. Yes, he is not only my dad but he is my insurance agent. This has taught me a big lesson. You can replace things like cars, but people are irreplaceable.
