Importance of Driver’s Safety

Importance of Driver’s Safety

Learning drivers education before you are put behind a wheel is very important. You need to know what you can and can’t do and the important information about driving. If you don’t know situations you are put in while driving, this will cause crashes which can lead to deaths. When you complete drivers education, this will help reduce the number of deaths caused by inexperienced driving.

I personally have never been in a car accident. I have hit my garage door with my car and got rear ended with my friend driving. It was a scary experience and just experiencing these two minor events, I can’t imagine getting in a car accident. One morning my best friend was heading to dance practice when she was in a really bad car accident. She was headed into town and got hit by a driver who ran a red light. They then found beer cans in the other person’s car and they were uninsured driver. It was very reckless driving, and she could have died. Her car was destroyed from the hood to where the driver’s compartment was, but she wasn’t even touched. It was amazing. My best friend was very lucky, and the outcome could have been a lot worse. The biggest impact reckless driving has affected me was when my brother got in a very serious accident. My brother was with his friends coming home from a state basketball game an hour and a half away from home and it was snowing. A semi rear-ended them and the bed of the semi hit their spinning car and they went into the ditch. The semi driver was an unlicensed driver. That is not acceptable. He should go to jail for a very long time. I had a feeling before we got a call from my brother that something was wrong then he called us and he told us. Someone picked them up and put them in their car for them to warm up. The police came and we headed towards where the accident was. I started crying. The car was so badly damaged, and my brother looked scared. It was really hard for my brother to get back into a car going out of town, and now I want to raise awareness to that.

I would say being a teenager, we are very irresponsible. We like to go on our phones and speed. We think it is cool to go on our phones and drive fast. In my opinion, that is terrible. That is just asking for you to hit something or get in an accident. I always take my friends’ phones and even my parents’ phones. It is a problem at every age. Many steps can be taken to be a better and safer driver. We have passed new laws on phone usage at the wheel and some still don’t follow it. Putting our phone away or putting driving mode on can reduce accident numbers greatly. I believe there should be a stronger punishment and higher fines if you get a ticket for being on your phone while driving. I want to always take steps to prevent anything driving related that will hurt others or myself. I can put my phone on driving mode, so it won’t let me even change my music or get any notifications. That will help me focus better and not look at my phone or Apple watch. I can encourage my friend to refrain from distractions. Every aspect matters for car safety. The driver and the passengers all have to make sure we are safe and reduce the number of deaths.
