The Rules Of The Road
Drivers ed plays a very important role in reducing the amount of deaths driving causes because drivers ed gives people the ability to learn how to drive properly by certified, professional drivers. This doesn’t exactly lower the amount of deaths driving causes because knowing society as it is, people aren’t usually the ones to listen, but it does help lower the death toll by teaching people the actual dangers of being behind the wheel, and by teaching people the proper way to act behind the wheel. Cars can be very scary, but if you know how to use them properly you are minimising that danger level by one, which doesn’t sound like a lot but it really is. If one person becomes safer on the road whenever they learn how to drive properly, the amount of safe drivers will grow bigger and bigger, until there are more safe drivers than unsafe.
I think a good step to take in making better and safer drivers is to make people have check ups on their driving lessons. What I mean by that is I feel that drivers should have a scheduled driver test every other year, to be sure that drivers still know the driving and road protocols. Just like how people’s licenses expire and they have to go and renew their license, that should be the same with driving tests. If the people were to fail the tests they should have to go through the whole entire driving class process all over again, just to be sure that they know and understand the rules and regulations of the road. This will also show people that driving and the rules of driving are not a joke, and should be taken seriously. I’m sure people will not like to have to retake driving school just because of one driving mistake, but one mistake can lead to one major tragedy.
I have never personally been in a car accident, but I have had an experience that could have ended up with me in the hospital. Me and my family were driving back from a football game in New Jersey, CT. Of course you could only imagine the amount of drunks slithering around the stadium. Anyway, as we were leaving the parking lot, a couple who were very intoxicated came speeding at full force. If it wasn’t for my grandfather’s cat-like reflexes we would have been very badly hurt. I have no idea what happened to the other car, I know that they missed us and hit a curb instead, the front of their car was crushed in and their airbags were deployed, but as for them, I just hope they were ok. After that day, I did experience some trauma for quite a while. Whenever I saw a car driving by my mind would play tricks and make me think it was speeding towards me. I was eventually able to shake off the hallucinations, but the memory of that near death experience will forever haunt me. I also know people who have been in very bad accidents.
