Education for All

Driving is one of the many privileges people have today that has been taken advantage of. Nowadays, there are more accidents due to distractions such as phones or loud friends. These distractions create reckless driving and cause many accidents. That creates the question, if people who receive their license truly drive cautiously for only a certain period of time and later need follow up on driving safety. Therefore, there needs to be a system enforced for driving citizens to relearn the rules of the road more than once in their lifetime.

Drivers Ed can teach simple rules about driving such as signaling or what to properly do at an intersection. These rules can prevent accidents through reinforcement, as practices such as these are sometimes neglected. Drivers Ed can also inform drivers of the importance of awareness for other cars, as some drivers tend to be entitled and assume other drivers are watching out for them. This education can be beneficial in encouraging others to be more cautious. For these reasons, drivers should relearn the rules of the road after a specified amount of years by attending a class that provides detailed instruction to include videos and other visual examples, reminding them how to drive safely and avoid damaging driving habits.

I have observed my family and friends drive on the road. My experience has concluded that older adults drive more irresponsibly than younger people. When riding with family members, they are occasionally on their phones when driving, but when I’m with friends they are very cautious and stay away from their devices when driving. This may be because my friends have recently taken Drivers Ed and my family has a lack of retention and practice of the Drivers Ed course due to their older age. To improve driving practices, Drivers ed should be reinforced with veteran drivers in order to keep people safe overtime.

Steps that I can take to be a better driver are pretty simple. I can remember the basics of the road such as signaling, watching out for pedestrians and other reckless drivers, and checking my mirrors constantly. I can also manipulate the basics of drivers’ education to help me in tricky situations that occur on the road. I can help others to become safer drivers by reminding them of what to do and not do when driving. Politely correcting any mistakes they make while driving can be essential, as long as it is done in a subtle and soothing way in order for them to retain the correction instead of ignoring the criticism. Implementing these practices will ensure that I am respecting the road and assisting others with safe driving practices as well. Hopefully, these initiatives can help reduce the amount of accidents and keep everyone safe.
