I choose to type this essay not only for the possibility of me obtaining a scholarship as a result, but also so I could share what was on my heart with others. To get started, I want to share with you why I believe drivers ed is so important when it comes to reducing the number of deaths behind the wheel. Just like handling firearms correctly or going skydiving from five thousands feet, two things that require lots of training before you can be comfortable participating in, drivers ed should be just as emphasised. The fact that the slightest jerk of your arm, the quickest look down at your phone, or the simple turn of the radio nosle could send you crossing into oncoming traffick should be alarming and a reality for every driver. Having knowledge of the statics that linger around the deaths behind the wheel which are staggering, should make us want to be as attentive and safe as possible while operating a vehicle.

I believe the steps that need to be taken include learning, application, and consistency. During your drivers ed course, soak everything in, don’t be the one who blows off the small details, because sometimes the small details will be the things that save your life. The tragedies usually happen when people least expect, that is why consistency is so important every time you get into your car and head off to your destination. The way to sum up these steps I believe could be defined as being humble and caring about others. Because your sloppy actions behind the wheel could result in a grieving family, for years to come. That is why I hold to and believe, the key steps that need to be taken include learning, application, and consistency.

I myself have had the experience of being in a car accident. It was a rainy day and I was passing a vehicle in the other lane, when my vehicle hydroplaned and spun out of my control. Although minor, and not resulting in severe injuries from either side, it woke me up to the fact that things can happen in an instant. It made me humble myself, learn, and focus on what I can do to avoid situations like that in the future.

The steps I can take to better my own driving, as well help others become safe behind the wheel are vast. But some of the ways include staying off my phone while driving, not eating or drinking beverages while driving, and keeping both hands on the wheel at all times. I can spread awareness to others by speaking up in love and care when they are breaking these keys rules behind the wheel. It really comes down to learning how to drive professionally and safely, applying those methods each time you start off to a destination even if its close, and being consistent and not breaking the key rules. Tragedy always strikes when you least expect. Always pay attention, and humble yourself enough to not put others in danger on a daily basis while driving.
