Prepare Yourself to Protect Others

Prepare
Yourself to Protect Others

As
our technology consumed generation continues to gain more freedoms
and get out on the roads, concerns arise regarding the safety of each
individual driver. It is incredibly important to teach the world’s
young drivers, that their new, life-changing devices, can greatly
change their lives in unimaginable ways. Informing drivers of the
risks on the road and preparing them for the challenges they may face
is the only way to reduce driving related deaths. Unfortunately there
are not enough programs to properly educate and prepare drivers, and
many driver’s often don’t want to go to these programs. Programs
like these are incredibly important, and these programs can be
replicated at home. Young drivers must take every opportunity
available to them to prepare, both physically and mentally, to drive
a car. Before I got my permit, I was tested on my knowledge of the
road, but the questions asked me relatively nothing about driving a
car. Then they handed me this little card with my picture on it,
which told me that I could now get behind the wheel of a car and
drive. I had never sat in the driver’s seat before and had no idea
what to do when I did, but the little card told me to go for it. The
first time I sat behind the wheel, I was scared, but I was told to go
for it. After some time, I was pretty comfortable in an empty parking
lot and my dad told me, “it’s time to try out a road with other
cars”. I sat behind the wheel, shaking and terrified once again.
The jump from an empty parking lot to a road with other cars is
extremely hard to prepare for, but the scariest thing is that it’s
not just you anymore. When you go out on that road, you hold every
other driver’s life in your hands. Fortunately, my family has been
very lucky and has been able to avoid dangerous driving situations,
but it took some time. I’ve witnessed a driver taking irresponsible
actions when driving. Although nothing unfortunate ever occurred, the
situation had to be addressed in order to prevent anything from
happening in the future. A driver can be prepared to properly drive a
car, but may not be fully educated on the risks, and how to prevent
these unimaginable scenarios. As I continue to prepare to drive, I
educate myself, and others around me, on the risks of distracted
driving and a lack of readiness, and support other drivers as we get
closer to our license. There are some situations that cannot be
prevented, but there are so many that can. Preparing to face an
unexpected situation can mean the difference between life or death.
This difference means so much, and can be determined by so little.
Make the difference, it’s worth it, for you and for everyone else
on the road.
