The importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving is that it can show statistics so those learning to drive can see how their driving can really affect not just themselves, but others as well. The steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving include not texting and driving and/or not being distracted while driving. It is also important to be aware of the surroundings and focusing on the road, but still being mindful of other drivers. I have not had the experience of being in a car accident, but I was almost in one while being a passenger. I was with my mom on the way to an amusement park and we were driving through a foggy area and my mom could not see. Since, she could not see she pulled over, just to be safe, and we were sitting in the car while the fog cleared and that is when we heard it. The loud bang of the cars hitting mixed with the screeching of the tires on the road. As the fog started to clear that is when we saw the accident, I called 911 and my mom got out to help. Everyone in the accident was okay with minor injuries, but if my mom and I would not have pulled over we would have been involved in the car accident. Even though that has happened, and my friends know about it I have still seen some of my friends driving irresponsibly by being on their phone and not paying attention to the road. The steps I can take to be a better and safer driver is not being on my phone while driving and focusing on the road. I already avoid being on my phone, but to help others be safe on the roads I plan to say something when I am in the car with someone and they are on their phone while driving. I normally do not say anything when I am with someone and they are on their phone, but I plan to start to because it can save many lives. It is better to be safe and prevent things from happening than to let it happen and regret it later. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
