The importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving is the instruction time that is given to help a driver retain critical information to avoid such a fatal accident. Student drivers in a drivers ed class are dedicating time to learn how to be proactive while on the road. This crucial information helps novice drivers keep themselves and others out of harm’s way while behind the wheel.

The steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving are first, realizing the privilege an individual has by operating a motor vehicle. I believe that actively exercising your mind while driving can reduce the number of car-related deaths. A person who drives and knows that there are consequences to their actions on the road are more likely to be cautious and aware during the time they spend driving.

I have personal experience of a friend driving irresponsible with me in the vehicle. This was a scary time for me because I was not in control of the actions of my friend at the time. I have learned to not put my life in danger by entering a car with a person who has previously shown me their irresponsible driving tendencies.

The steps I can take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road is by eliminating all distractions in the vehicle before I operate it. This can reduce the likelihood of my focus being diverted while driving. I can also be a defensive driver. I am not the only driver on the road, and there are others who may not be as mindful while driving. To help others become safer on the road is to speak up if someone is not physically or mentally ready to operate a vehicle. By having the privilege to drive I also want to share my knowledge to the best of my ability to reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving.
