Drivers ed

Having
drivers ed allows the new drivers to get the right information
on how to drive. They learn the traffic laws the right way. A lot
of times when young drivers start to learn the people (most of the
time family) do not know all the rules of the road. If they do know
the rules, they may tell them not to worry about the rules – that
they are more of just a suggestion. Some young drivers have never
been allowed behind the wheel of a vehicle. Having drivers ed
classes gives the new and young drivers a chance to practice.
One
step that can be taken such as education on drunk driving. Have all
new drivers do a drunk simulator to show them how it effects their
ability to do normal functions. This could also be done with beer
goggles and have them go through obstacle courses. They also need to
have more education on the effects other drugs have on the body. It
would also be advantageous to have a course done at night because
there are a lot of wrecks that happen during the night.
The
first wreck I had was when I was almost 17 years old. It just
started raining and
I was almost home, and I slid into a guard
rail. The only thing that was hurt was the guard rail thank
goodness. The worst wreck I was in was about 24 years ago when I was
10 years old. My mother was not paying attention and pulled out in
front of a truck. I remember hitting my head on the window.
Luckily, no one was seriously hurt. My mother-in-law’s cousin was
in a wreck when he was very young. This happened because his dad
told him he had to be home at a specific time. He had to take his
girlfriend home and he was very tired when he got there so her Mother
let him take a nap. When he woke up, he realized he was going to be
late, so he drove at a high rate of speed because he did not want his
Dad to take away his car. On the way, he rounded a curve too fast,
lost control, smashed into a tree, and was killed.
I
can be a safer driver by making sure I stay within the speed limits.
I can be more aware of the people around me. I would tell new
drivers that if you go the speed limit it does not matter if it makes
that person behind you mad if you are safe. If there are light and
sirens behind you, then you need to pull over to the right if
possible. Do not drink and drive! Do not drive when you are sleepy
or under the influence of drugs that might impair your reaction time!
