Safe
Driving
Driving
in the United States has become for many an everyday necessity. It is
also one if not the most deadly necessities. There could be many
reasons why a car accident can happen from a small mistake to driving
under the influence. Either way, they both can lead to deaths. This
can be fixed by educating young drivers, that are in the learning
stages of driving, the rules of the road, and how to properly handle
a car. This not only keeps new drivers safe from simple mistakes such
as not signaling before crossing over but also keeps other people
safe from harm.
To
reduce the number of deaths that occur from driving accidents every
year, there are some simple steps that can be taken. First is taking
a drivers ed class. Another reason is following the rules of the
road. For example, the first one that comes to mind is wearing a
seatbelt. Seatbelts, as well as headrest and airbags, are put in cars
in case of an emergency. Seatbelts will keep someone in the case of
an accident from flying out any of the many windows in a car. Another
law is the speed limit, many people will jokingly tell you that they
are recommendations, but actually they use science, specifically
physics to keep people safe. So to reduce the number of deaths is as
simple as following the laws.
There
was one time that my family has ever experienced a car accident. That
one time could have been prevented if the rules of the road were
followed. When there is a yellow flashing arrow it means you can
turn if it is all clear otherwise you have to wait until it is your
turn. In this case, my family had the right of way as our light was
green but as we crossed the intersection, a car (which also had a
family) made a turn and hit the driver’s side. Luckily no one was
injured but it is a clear example of how following the laws and rules
can really prevent such accidents.
Safe
driving is essential for the safety of the people and as the saying
goes practice makes perfect but as humans are bound to make mistakes
it is better to practice these things always. For example, plenty of
people are in the habit of not wearing seatbelts. If one starts
practicing putting a seatbelt on even before turning on the car can
save a life. Another big issue is distracted driving, in today’s
world cellphones, in particular, are a big distraction. To solve the
cellphone issue simply use the Do Not Disturb function or put your
phone out of reach so you can not use it. The factor that most people
forget about is a mental state and physical state of being. So that
being said try not to drive tired or when angry as these cause
reckless driving behaviors. To help other people be better drivers
you can, try not to distract or anger them.
